In 1941, hundreds of Jews were killed in a 2 day pogrom. Jews have lived in Baghdad since the days Nebuchadnezzar took them into slavery. Cyrus the Great of Persia freed those Jews. that was around 560BC.
So Jews lived freely in Mesopotamia/Iraq for over 1000 years before islam came along.
