US campaigners for sex abuse victims held after Vatican protest - Times Online

Here we have the Vatican police protecting their own. This reminds me, in microcosm, of what happens in Iran when people try to protest: they are arrested. If you take away the religion, the Vatican is a totalitarian mini-state, with the pope as dictator. If you put the religion back - and make it an offence to criticize it, you end up with something like an islamic state.

To know the history and traditions of the Catholic church, read about the Inquisition. Not only did it take place in Spain, but also Portugal, Brazil, Peru, Goa, the Phillipines, Hormuz in Persia, Angola, Madeira and the Cape Verde Islands.

It lasted until from 1478 to 1834, when it was finally abolished in Spain. But it was practised with the full knowledge of the popes in Rome.
