"It had been a long day and the light was fading fast. B Company was hunkered beneath the walls of an Afghan compound. Two attempts to storm the 10ft-high perimeter had been repulsed, with heavy British casualties, and the medevac Sea King helicopter came and went, lifting away the dead and injured. Suddenly there was a huge explosion. Success. B Company had driven back the Taliban, overrun an outer courtyard and blown open the door leading to the main compound. The fighting had been fierce, but the compound would be securely in B Company hands by nightfall."
